Why you need separate insurance for your electric bike or “E Bike”

By June 21, 2021No Comments

Did you know that traditional homes, renters, and auto policies don’t typically provide full coverage for e-bikes? Why? Because e-bikes are considered motorized vehicles. But, your bike is a valuable piece of your property and you likely want to protect it- and you! As with all expensive things, theft can be a significant concern. In addition, bikes often have an increased risk of accidents and bicycle-related liabilities.

E-bike insurance typically includes coverage for things like theft, vandalism, crashes, and fire. In addition to covering the value of the bike, the policy can offer you some liability coverages and medical payment coverages if a covered claim occurs.

Home and renters policies typically will only cover the bike in the event of theft- at the home. But if the bike is stolen at a different location, the policy may not cover the loss.

If you have an accident, e-bike policies are your best bet to provide liability coverages and medical payments.
